What Size is a Wallet Photo?
In the world of smartphones, keeping a wallet photo has become a kind of unnecessary thing, but for those of us who are a bit old-fashioned in certain ways, a physical photo of your wife, children, or even yourself is an essential wallet item.
What is wallet size photo?
A wallet size photo is a traditional way of carrying a photo of your loved ones inside your wallet or purse. The photo is usually kept inside a pocket with a transparent window.
If you consider printing yourself a wallet photo (also known as wallet prints or wallet sized print), it's better to have it in the right size to fit a traditional leather wallet's photo slot.
So, what size is a wallet photo? As per printing industry experts, the perfect wallet photo size is 2" x 3". This size will fit in most traditional leather wallets with photo slot.
Generally speaking, there is no limit or guidelines available from wallet manufacturers on the size of the photo display window or pocket, so we checked multiple products to see the most common size found in traditional leather wallets.
The photo's size is also restricted by the available size options with the printing companies. Most of the time, they print multiple images per sheet, so you have fewer choices & selecting a custom size is not possible.
The average size of a photo pocket in a wallet
So, I tested around 30 different wallets to see the pocket's size, which can accommodate a photo. Almost all of them had an ID card slot, which people often use to keep a photo. I was not able to find a wallet that had a pocket specifically designed for a photo.
Since the slots are designed for IDs, the sizes were similar to a credit card slot.
Description | Length | Height |
---|---|---|
Smallest pocket size | 2.6" (66mm) | 1.89" (81mm) |
Largest pocket size | 3.5" (88mm) | 3.2" (81mm) |
Average pocket size | 3.1" (78mm) | 2.6" (71mm) |
So, the sizes are not universal, but printing a picture less than a 2.0" x 3.0" dimension will cater to most cases.
However, if the picture is not fitting in, you can quickly reduce the size by clipping extra space from the sides.
How to calculate the exact photo size for my wallet?
So, if you are not sure and don't want to risk getting the wrong wallet picture size, you can cut a piece of paper roughly equal to the size of your wallet photo slot and try fitting it in. If it is a bit larger, you can clip the sides till its perfect.
Once done, you can take out the paper stencil and measure it with an inch tape or your iPhone measuring App (how to use iPhone measuring app) to get the final measurements.
Once you have determined how big is a wallet size photo for your wallet, you can get your photos printed close to that size and it will fit perfectly inside your wallet. Just make sure the print size is either equal to or smaller than the stencil measured size.
Remember, smaller photos can fit in larger pockets but not the other way around.
Where can i get wallet photos printed?
Most printing companies offer standard sizes that can easily go inside most of the traditional leather wallet window slots. These companies offer multiple prints on the same sheet so you can get the same picture in set of 4 or 9 (or even more depending on your need)
We did some research and found these sizes available from the following companies. You can place order for your wallet prints online on their website and get your wallet photo delivered to your home or pick it up from one of their distribution centers.
